I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the wonderful work and significant initiative of Ronald McDonald House Westmead. At the Westmead House they cater for children and families from across NSW, plus a number of national and international families who seek the specialist medical treatment available at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
With servicing 513 family visits in 2013 RMH Westmead was only able to accommodate just over one out of every two familieis who asked for our help. There is an obvious and urgent need to build a new House to provide a home-away-from-home for more families in need.
RMHC Australia, RMHC Global and RMH Westmead, together, are contributing a total of $10 million into the building of a new Westmead House. The total project costs are around $30 million, this includes an endowment fund for future operational sustainability. The 'Building Love Campaign' must raise $20 million from the community, including individuals, corporations, government and trust and foundations. I have been given the honour of Chairing the campaign.
I sincerely believe that together we can make a difference. We will be known not just for the footprints we leave behind but also for the giant steps forward we will make together. For the sake of sick children, and their families, I urge you to support this vital project and join us in making a difference to thousands of lives in the years to come.
